Alexander Povetkin - The future!

On October 27, 2007 in Erfurt, Povetkin destroyed former champion Chris Byrd whose corner threw the towel in the 11th round. By that time, the Russian star had built a big lead on the scorecards. Next up for him was the final of the four-way elimination tournament against Eddie Chambers, who had earned his place with a split decision over fellow American Calvin Brock. And on January 26, 2008, the duo would battle out a great final eliminator in Berlin. For the first time in his career, Povetkin had to go the full distance to notch another spectacular victory. The judges scored it 119:109, 117:111 and 116:112.

The stage is set for the clash with Klitschko but before the two meet in the ring Povetkin´s lawyers have to press charges against the Ukrainian. Prior to the meeting with his up-and-coming opponent, Klitschko wants to defend his WBO title against Tony Thompson. The IBF votes about Povetkin´s justified appeal but eventually grants Klitschko the Thompson fight. The condition: He has to fight Povetkin until November – otherwise he will lose his IBF belt.In the meantime, Povetkin remains Klitschko´s biggest fan. “I hope he remains fine until November – because I will change that when I get my hands on him. Wladimir, I am your nightmare. You shall wake up with the thought of fighting me and also have me on your mind when you go to bed. Wladimir, I am waiting for you.”
